“The Patriot” movie review: the tender iron man in war

After watching this week’s I believe you must be very much looking forward to that smooth-bore gun era, the army lined up guns in battle scenes. Today’s recommendation is a classic masterpiece with such wonderful scenes “The Patriot”.

The story takes place in the 1870s on the eve of the American War of Independence, when the long British war of colonial expansion against the French and Indians finally ended in 1763, once the hero of the battle Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) also returned to his farm in South Carolina, the brutality of the war made him disgusted, and he hopes to live a quiet and peaceful life with his children from now on. However, after the war, the British rulers did not repay the expatriates of the colonies who had fought for them, instead, in order to further consolidate their absolute rule over the colonies, they began to use high-handed methods to deprive the local people of their freedom and power, imposing numerous unreasonably high taxes, and the settlers of the colonies began to revolt.

Benjamin did not want to participate in their struggle, but the reality and tragedy in front of Benjamin began to transform, the mind suffered from the impact, but the brutal scenes of the past war still constantly haunted him, he knew how cruel the history of war.

At this time, his son Jebre, however, without the slightest hesitation, began to devote himself to the struggle for freedom and independence, but when the British army invaded in force and threatened his home and killed his second son, he found that the only way to protect his home and family was to defend the freedom of the young people with all his might. War was inevitable, and Benjamin decided to follow his son to protect his home and create a new independent country.

The movie is a classic recreation of the “line up and shoot” style of warfare that characterized the era. In that era, the effective range of the flintlock smoothbore gun was very short, and the real battle began when both troops came within range.

Of course, in addition to the exciting battle scenes, what attracts military germs is the outstanding performance of Mel Gibson in the film. Mel Gibson is also a typical representative of the soft-hearted tough guy in the heart of military weapons bacteria, he starred in another movie “Braveheart” in the role of William Wallace is also the same type. It is a coincidence that both movies are Mel Gibson beating up the British at different times, so it can be called the “anti-British warrior” ah.

Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) has seen the blood and brutality of war due to the long British colonial expansion war against the French and Indians in 1763, so when his hometown council initiated a vote on the war of independence against Britain, Benjamin Martin gave up. But his stubborn eldest son, against his father’s advice, insists on joining the army to fight for the freedom and independence of his country.

The ruthless war still burned his home, and his oldest son was taken away, his second son was killed trying to save his oldest son, and even his home was burned. Benjamin Martin was so grief-stricken that he began to realize that his compromise could not protect his loved ones and his home at all, and the fightback for revenge began. One man with two young sons brilliantly took out a 20-man British army squad and rescued his oldest son. And joined the independent army, led a militia squad, everywhere to fight guerrilla, achieved good results.

The eldest son also found his love and got married, and Benjamin Martin gave his daughter-in-law the “Polaris” necklace, a relic of his wife, as a gift. When they were about to go out again, the youngest daughter, who had never spoken, cried out and wouldn’t let her father go, which thrilled Benjamin Martin. The love of a father and daughter is deeper than that. Unfortunately, Benjamin Martin’s eldest daughter-in-law and the entire village were burned alive in the church, while his eldest son was killed in revenge for hunting down the British. Benjamin Martin, once again facing the pain of losing his son, lost his will to fight and wanted to quit the army.

When he saw that his oldest son’s backpack was hiding a flag that had been carefully mended, he knew more about his son’s ideal, which was the independence and freedom of the country, and that he should fight for this, not simply to avenge the death of his son. So he raised the flag and set out on the battlefield again with a vengeance.

He led the militia first, while the regular army ambushed behind the hill, taking advantage of the pride of the British army, deliberately losing the battle to lure the British army to pursue, and then cooperated with the regular army to fight a beautiful counterattack, which won the battle. In this battle, Benjamin Martin personally faced the murderer of his two sons, and fought hard, and finally killed the enemy with one blow, which was also a revenge for his sons. After this battle, the British army’s defeat is also more and more, the victory of the American War of Independence is also imminent.

The tone of the whole movie reminds the famous Franklin of a quote: There is never a good war, nor is there a bad peace. After watching this movie, I believe you will have a better understanding of this statement.
